Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is a common form of inflamed skin (dermatitis) that appears as a patchwork of bright red skin on your baby's bottom.

Diaper rash is often related to wet or infrequently changed diapers, skin sensitivity, and chafing. It usually affects babies, though anyone who wears a diaper regularly can develop the condition.

Our pharmacists can prescribe, under certain conditions, a treatment to help reduce the inflammation and clear it up faster. He can also give you some advice to help you prevent it from happening again or reduce its frequency.

 

Eligibility criteria and details

The pharmacist MAY prescribe a medication if:

  • The patient has already been diagnosed by a healthcare professional qualified to prescribe.
  • A prescription for the condition has already been written.

The pharmacist CANNOT prescribe a medication if:

  • More than 5 years have passed since the last prescribed treatment.

Unless there is clinical justification or a supply shortage, the pharmacist should normally re-prescribe the drug listed on the reference prescription. When prescribing a different drug, the pharmacist should ensure that the drug prescribed is in a class of drugs of equal or lesser potency than the one originally prescribed.

If more than 5 years have passed since the last prescribed treatment or if this condition has never been diagnosed, the pharmacist may still prescribe or recommend an over-the-counter medication if the patient's clinical situation or any other circumstance justifies it.
